As you can see, my page has changed thanks to our lesson in CSS (cascading style sheet) in class today. I was able to edit the embedded CSS in blogspot to change the background color, type size and type color on my own page. I am still playing around with different styles...
Earlier this week we learned some more about HTML earlier this week, this time about the difference between relative and absolute links. An absolute link includes the entire URL and will always connect you to the page no matter where you are. A relative link, however, will link you to different levels within a specific website. It assumes that the beginning address remains the same, and just directs you to a different file within the site for example, http://american.edu/soc places you in the SOC homepage. in your HTML, you can simply put "/journalism" to direct you to the journalism link! This gets a little more complicated, as we figured out in class today but I think I finally understand the basics! Luckily we will never have to write our own CSS or complete HTML in class :)

Ah...those relative and absolute links really had me confused for a while. Although most of my doubts were cleared after the quizz. lol. And great work on the bg color! I wonder if designers remember the exact code of each color or if they just experiment. Like, there is #ffff and then there is #555 (which is a sort of grey). numbers to letters to...I think I'll just use Photoshop.
ReplyDeleteCool color scheme. And yes, thanks to CSS I know have one more thing to add to my list of activities that will be distracting me from studying in the run up to graduation. I have a Wordpress blog too, and I’ve been using what we learned in Multimedia Production to tweak that one too. But the thing is, once you change one thing, you have to change everything else to ensure uniformity (meaning those five minutes I initially intended to spend ‘just checking something out’ quickly turn into two hours). Thanks Internet - my GPA really appreciates it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the absolute and relative links can trip you up when writing HTML - I'm glad I wasn't the only frustrated one when we were taking the quiz! It's cool that absolute links can take you back to the page no matter where you are on the Internet .
ReplyDeleteYes, designers do remember colors. For example, the home color of USA TODAY is 00529B. Type it enough and it sticks in your head.
